What is Reiki

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a spiritual practice developed in 1922 by Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui. It uses a technique commonly called palm healing as a form of complementary and alternative medicine and is sometimes classified as oriental medicine by some professional bodies. Through the use of this technique, practitioners can transfer or harmonise energy in the form of ki through the palms.

As according to Chinese medecine, the spiritual life force, or vital spiritual energy is said to reside in all living things. Reiki is a therapy, which is sometimes saidto be based on an ancient Tibetan Buddhist technique & Philosophy, developed as a simple method in Japan in the late 19th or early 20th cent. by Dr Mikao Usui (1865–1926), in which the therapist channels ki energy into the patient by the gentle laying on of hands, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient’s body and restore physical and emotional well-being.

I believe that Reiki has been practiced intuitively since there has been life in this world, It could be linked to shamanism and in my view is not exclusive to the Buddhist traditions. A simple example is that whether we practice Reiki consciously or not we can often find ourselves naturally  putting our hand where we feel pain or discomfort. Reiki can also be compared to the soft love a mother has for her child.

Reiki Practitioners and Reiki masters have learned the Reiki method that allows the practitioner to increase his/her sensitivity to subtile energies or energy blockage. Similar to a masseur who can feel the tensions when touching your muscles, with simple hand techniques we can harmonise the vital energy by simply helping the energy flow and bringing consciousness to the body. Reiki acts on a very soft energy level, no hard or shock techniques are necessary but in some cases Yoso will prefer to refer you to a shiatsu or acupuncture master as complementary to the Reiki treatment.

Some western techniques are based on an understanding of chakra systems or an understanding of meridians. While Yoso’s considers and studies the various traditions that relate to the evolution of reiki, His approach is simple and intuitive.

Due to the nature of the human mind and personal understandings, Yoso structures its Reiki methods according to the individuals need. Reiki sessions and initiations offer relaxation and increase sensitivity towards the beautiful energy that is Reiki.

Learning reiki or having a reiki treatment have the same long term objectives which is to live in peace and harmony in this world. Everyone is welcome for a reiki session and those who wish to can progress to the Reiki Master Level. You are  the only one who can commit to your studies. I can only guide you.
